Our Story

Duke's Lazy Loggerhead Cafe first opened for breakfast and lunch in 1998 when Brian "Duke" Wilson and his former partner took over a small space that was just a snack bar and renovated it to include a full open kitchen, inside dining, outside patio and take-out window.

Duke, a native of Juno Beach and a graduate of Florida State University and Jennifer, from Bridgehampton, NY and a graduate of Skidmore College, met at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. As a child, Brian enjoyed cooking with his Italian grandfather. Jennifer grew up on the family farm where she learned to cook with her mother, developing a real appreciation for freshly harvested fruits and vegetables. After graduating from the Culinary Institute, Jennifer and Brian experienced two different areas in the industry. While Jennifer worked in catering sales, Brian opened the Lazy Loggerhead Cafe. However, Jennifer did not stay away for long and as the business grew she soon joined her husband.

In 2003, Jennifer and Brian assumed full ownership of the cafe and now focus on using fresh, local, high quality products. Customers and friends will attest that both Brian and Jennifer share a passion for creating artfully presented, delicious food that is served in a casual and fun atmosphere which many consider one of Jupiter's best kept secrets on the beach.

The Lazy Loggerhead Cafe is named after the loggerhead turtle, which nests regularly on the beaches in south Florida. In an area where fishing, boating, and recreation are so important, the loggerhead turtle, along with the leatherback and the green turtle make our area one of the most active sea turtle nesting sites in the world. Each year, as many as 7000 sea turtle nests are recorded and tracked during the season, which runs from March 1 through October 31. Because the female turtles laying their eggs are distracted by light, the area along the beach during turtle mating season is 'Lights Out' so they can make their nests and and we can protect our baby loggerhead turtles!
